C-Art Young Curators 2017

16th January 2017

Are you interested in art? Are you thinking of applying to study Art at University? Or have you recently returned from university and would like to gain some experience in the art world?

C-Art and Eden Arts are inviting applications to form a group of Young Curators, aged between 16- 24, to select and curate the C-Art Cumbrian Artist of the Year Exhibition and awards at the Gallery at Rheged, running from 9th September – 5th November 2017.

The successful Young Curators will work alongside two arts professionals to select the exhibition and shortlist the winner for the Cumbrian Artist of the Year Award.

The 2016 selection process was led by Eliza Bonham Carter, Curator and Head of the Royal Academy Schools, one of London’s leading art schools, and Nick Rogers, curator of Abbot Hall, Lakeland Arts.

There was also an opportunity to visit London and go behind the scenes at the school to learn more about curating and what goes on behind the scenes in galleries.

The 2016 C-Art Cumbrian Artist of the Year Exhibition was visited by over 22,500 people.

Short listed applicants will be invited to an interview at Rheged, Penrith for a final selection process after the deadline. A confirmation email will be sent once your entry has been received.

This year the Young Curators scheme will offer participants the opportunity to take part in the Bronze Arts Award, a qualification equivalent to a QCF Level 1 standard in the areas of art form knowledge and understanding, creativity and communication. Support will be provided by Eden Arts to help the participants achieve this.

You can apply by filling out this application form and letting us know a bit about you, the artwork you are interested and why you want to apply for the Young Curators Scheme.

The DEADLINE for applications is Friday 28th April 2017.
